Snow
Mistaken for a child
her eyes ran wild
across the quilted blanket
of snow
Extra plush benches
and soot-covered finches
line all the places
she’ll go
Tree branches
against the sky
starkly outlined
as cottony flakes
fall to remind-
Stop and enjoy
the show,
the gentle breeze
and falling swoop
the crystal sprinkle
and icy droop
the backyard’s cover
layered white fluff
the breath’s exhale
a frozen puff
A quilted blanket
of snow.

Winter Blues.
I’ve sunken, I’ve fallen in,
it started with a stumble and end in a slip
Now I’m a meter down in mud-
it’s creeping slowly past my hip
Dull-eyed and motionless
this weather doesn’t help
if only, if only the sun could shine
This frozen mound could melt
